About

My Ph.D. thesis entitles “Acquisition of sentential negation and negative concord in early child language”. My Ph.D. project clearly, with extensive details and the help of several mind maps encapsulates the paths and patterns with which children acquire sentential negation in their local language.

I present large-scale analyses of more than 200,000 negative sentences of 1432 children of 1 to 7 years of age and 300,000 negative sentences by their caregivers. Dutch, Italian, Standard English, and Negative Concord English constitute the sample languages for the data investigated in the thesis. The study supersedes existing studies of negation on three levels of sampling, i) the number of sample children studied, ii) the number of negative sentences per sample child, and iii) the number of total negative sentences investigated, for each sample language.
